Q. What will the work experience be like?
A. Work experience will involve all three partners. It is envisaged that each partner will work with one of the apprentices per term. The apprentices will then rotate around the other partners on a term-by-term basis.
We want to make the work experiences as interesting and useful as possible. However, for employees under 18 years of age there will be many restrictions regarding site based work activities and this will be replaced with alternative options.
For employees over 18 years old, there is much more freedom about the on-site jobs which they can participate.
Q. What is your health and safety like?
A. All organisations have the highest health and safety standards. In fact the Highways Alliance has not had a single reportable accident since the partnership was set-up nearly 5 years ago. All employees are provided with appropriate personal protective equipment.
Q. What is a standard working week?
A. A working week is less than 40 Hours. As a guide, when working on site you can be expected to work your daily hours any time between 7:30am and 6:00pm.
Office based work is normally 8:30am until 5:00pm, with an hour for lunch.
Q. Travel – Do I have to pay for my own travel?
A. You will be reimbursed for travel expenses either through a mileage allowance, or on a receipt basis where public transport is used.
Q. How much travelling will I need to do?
A. It is difficult to say exactly. The journey to Pell Frischmann takes approximately 1 hour, and the building is approximately a ten-minute walk from the train station, you will spend one term each year with Pell’. You will also be required to travel to sites and need your own transport.
Q. What is a typical day at college like?
A. College normally starts at 9:00am until 8:00pm with 1 hour for lunch and 1 hour for tea. We have a set curriculum, which we work towards completing civil engineering units, which are assessed through assignment at certain points in the year. Further information relating to the BTEC National Certificate in Civil Engineering course may be obtained from the North Lindsey College Staff.

A. It is likely that you will study at college on a Thursday.

A. Yes, please contact the college direct.
Q. Am I guaranteed a permanent job at the end of the course?
A. Whilst, at this stage, we cannot make any guarantees of permanent jobs, we are hopeful that the three apprentices will be employed with one of the partner organisation on a permanent basis at the end of their training (assuming they have passed their college course and have worked well with the Alliance partners.
