Work has commenced on a new £4.4m sports centre for the Stamford Endowed Schools. To mark the occasion, a turf-cutting ceremony took place led by SES Principal Mr Stephen Roberts and representatives of the architectural and construction contractors.
The project, which has been awarded to Lincolnshire based private contractor Clugston Construction and designed by GSS Architects of Kettering, consists of both dry and wet leisure facilities. The new sports building will incorporate a 25-metre, six-lane swimming pool together with a gymnasium, fitness suite and extensive changing facilities for both indoor and outdoor activities. There is also a large south-facing spectator terrace covered by an overhanging roof. This will give people a prime view of the main sports pitches. Dedicated spectator seating is to be provided for events in the swimming pool. The new building will also include office space, additional teaching rooms, toilets and a medical room. The three storey building will take a year to complete.
Stephen Roberts, Principal of the Stamford Endowed Schools, said “At the Stamford Endowed Schools we are committed to continually improving our academic and extra-curricular provision and this facility will greatly enhance the quality of sport at Stamford School. Our Schools have seen a number of high profile developments over the last few years, such as a new resource and learning centre and a nursery, and beyond the sports complex we will be turning our attention to a new performing arts centre. We look forward to working with Clugston and GSS over the next year.”
Steve Radcliff managing director of Clugston Construction said “I am delighted that Clugston have been chosen for this project, we have many years’ experience in building pools, several within the education sector and we look forward to working closely with Stamford School to deliver what I am certain will be an excellent addition to this wonderful campus.”
