Clugston Construction to start work on Lincolnshire’s first Energy from Waste plant

Thursday 12th May saw the first of 80 trees being planted to mark the start of the construction phase of the 150,000 tonne Energy from Waste (EfW) Facility that will see Lincolnshire County Council meet the EU landfill diversion targets whilst producing 11 megawatts of electricity to the National Grid. The facility, which is part of a £145M investment , will treat up to 150,000 tonnes of household waste per year.

The landmark project, which will dramatically reduce the amount of waste Lincolnshire sends to landfill, has been led by Lincolnshire Waste Partnership (LWP) and will see Clugston Construction working along side its process partner CNIM, to build the EfW plant for Waste Recycling Group (WRG), who were appointed by LWP. WRG will operate the facility once completed.

Lincolnshire’s first EfW facility will produce enough electricity to power over 10,000 homes and businesses. The Local Authority is also planning to further exploit the potential of the facility to develop a district heating scheme to heat thousands of local homes and businesses.

Steve Radcliffe, managing director of Clugston Construction said: “Together with our JV partner CNIM, we are delighted to have finalised the contract to design and build the EfW plant for WRG and Lincolnshire County Council.

Mr. Radcliffe added, “We have worked closely with our partner CNIM, WRG and Lincolnshire County Council for some time now on the development of this plant and it is exciting that we will be commencing construction very soon.”
