Clugston Chief Executive, Stephen Martin, highly commended at (IoD) Director of the Year UK Finals.

Clugston Chief Executive, Stephen Martin, has been highly commended in the Director of a large company category at this years (IoD) Director of the Year UK Finals.

Stephen was recognised for his involvement in improving employee engagement demonstrated through his involvement in the "Undercover Boss" TV programme when he agreed to work incognito with his construction site employees. This experience led him to reform his ideas and to implement his key learning points within each of the group companies. In addition during the four years since his appointment Martin has reorganised the Group to operate on a subsidiary company basis and implemented a new business strategy, which prior to the recession resulted in the Clugston Group achieving record results along the way.

The lunchtime event held at the Lancaster Hotel in London was attended by 400 people, including Lord Sugar of Clapton. The compare for the event was Michael Portillo.

Finalists for the awards came from all regions of the UK., and the event was sponsored by – Clydesdale Bank and Yorkshire Bank, Inenco, Custom House, Auditel, Conqueror and Visa.

The IoD (Institute of Directors) was founded in 1903 and obtained a Royal Charter in 1906. The IoD is a non-party political organisation with upwards of 40,000 members in the United Kingdom and overseas. Membership includes directors from right across the business spectrum. Members include CEOs of large corporations as well as entrepreneurial directors of start-up companies.
