Clugston set to secure Baths Hall build

February 2010

Clugston Construction has been appointed main contractor to build the town's newlook Baths Hall which is to be redeveloped as a major entertainment venue.

The £14.4-million project is due to start on April 26th at the Doncaster Road site, where the existing building is located and has sat empty for several years.

Steve Radcliffe, the managing director of Clugston Construction, said: "As a Scunthorpe-based business we employ many local people. These people have followed the history of the Baths Hall project with avid interest.

"We are thrilled to be awarded this landmark project.

"The construction of the Baths Hall would provide continuity of employment, for both our own people and those of our local supply chain at a time when it is widely recognised that the construction industry has been amongst the most severely affected by the recession.

"The project will employ 60 to 70 people on average with up to 130 on the project at the busiest time."

"UKCG, the UK Contractors Group, has recently published a report highlighting the benefits of investment in construction evidencing that it is one of the most effective ways of stimulating growth at the time of recession.

"North Lincolnshire Council's commitment to the investment in this project is to be applauded." Cllr Mark Kirk, the leader of North Lincolnshire Council, said: "It's great that as a result of a competitive tender process, we are – subject to the normal procurement formalities – able to use a local construction company to build the Baths Hall.

When completed the new Baths Hall will provide an entertaining venue for up to 2000 people along with a bar, cafe and conference facilities.
