Alongside a small number of national contractors, Clugston are one of only four regional companies to make the final cut in a programme which will deliver the government’s ambitious plan to replace or refurbish every secondary school in the country.
Steve Radcliffe managing director Clugston Construction said “We are delighted to have secured a place on the framework for 'Sector 1' which covers East Midlands, West Midlands, North West, North East and Yorkshire and Humber.
It is refreshing, that unlike some other central government departments, Partnerships for Schools have listened to and recognised the part regional contractors can play in delivering frameworks of this nature, which all too often have been dominated by the giants of the industry, with regional organisations restricted to supply chain roles.
Through our local knowledge and commitment to developing skills in the communities in which we live and work we do add real value to local authorities demonstrated by the recent successful school projects Clugston have completed in York and Grimsby. “
Partnership for Schools chief executive Tim Byles said “With contracts in the region of £500m coming to market in the first five months alone, the new framework gives the successful contractors access to a predictable flow of work, supported by direct grant Government funding.
The new framework will secure the future work stream, maintaining the focus on streamlined and accelerated delivery of education investment in Academies, smaller BSF schemes and other education facilities, with the first schools to be procured through the new framework opening their gates in September 2012.”
About 60 companies started the race to secure a place on the framework which has double the value of its predecessor. The framework comes into operation later this year and will be available for local authorities and academy sponsors to select their contracting partner.
