FIRE AT FERRO MONK
Having only just settled into their new facilities at Astley Way, Swillington in Leeds, a major fire, which started in the neighbouring factory unit, has destroyed the entire Ferro Monk production area.
Involving at its peak more than 70 fire fighters, the blaze, which lasted almost 12 hours, ripped through the adjacent business which supplied flammable but non toxic chemicals to the printing industry, before spreading to the Ferro Monk unit. Fortunately no people were working in the area at the time as the incident happened during a Sunday morning.
A scene of near total devastation met Ferro Monk’s managing director, Danny Heffernan, when he was called to the scene “After all the hard work put in by the Ferro Monk team in relocating the business this is a terrible blow, however thanks to the fantastic efforts of the fire brigade who miraculously saved the offices at the front of the unit we should be able to get our business activities up and running reasonably quickly. I know all the staff will rally round and we intend not to let this event stop us growing the business” said Danny.
Ferro Monk the specialist sewer relining company was acquired by Clugston in 1999 and has a growing customer base in the water and sewerage industry. Some of the companies recent activities include, relining culverts at Wetherby Racecourse, pipe and culvert renovation for a number of UK’s drainage boards and further relining works at various sewage treatment works within the Yorkshire region.
