Management Actions and Performance Measurements
Translating our policy into specific actions, we have looked at both management actions and performance measurement.
Management Actions
To assist in bringing sustainable principles into the heart of the business, we have worked with: the Building Research Establishment, originally adopting the Managing Sustainable Companies (MaSC) framework; Carbon Footprint to assist in measuring & reducing our CO2 emissions; Business in the Community to help ongoing implementation and focussing on corporate responsibility.
Performance Measurement
We currently measure our environmental performance in terms of:-
- The number of environmental incidents, and complaints from the public
- Our CO2 emissions, including:
- the amount of energy we use at our offices and construction sites
- the number of miles travelled by car on company business
- Our score in the Considerate Constructors Audits
- The amount of waste material we remove from our offices and construction sites
- The amount of waste we divert from landfill and therefore recycle
- The amount of recycled materials we purchase
As members of the UKCG, we have committed to the WRAP goal of 'Halving Waste to Landfill by 2012', and to only purchasing timber from certified legal and sustainable sources. As a 'May Day' company we have also committed to monitor and target to reduce our CO2 emissions.
We have set the following targets for 2010:
| 2009 Performance | 2010 Targets & Objectives | |
