The project involves the construction of three large anchor retail units, major stripped out refurbishment and extension of several existing retail units, replacement of redesigned paving and street furniture in the mall and remodeling and refurbishment of the existing car parks.

The works commenced with the construction of a new car park for Peterborough City Council to allow phasing of other works. The new building work compromises a mixture of metal cladding, fair faced block work and rendered walls. The existing glazed canopies are also to be modified and re-glazed.

Two blocks of existing apartments, above the retail units, were stripped back to shell and provided with new doors and windows. The apartments are heated by a central boiler located elsewhere on the development. The mechanical and electrical works to install the supplies to the apartments have been carried out as part of our works. The final fit out will be let as a separate contract.

The construction works were undertaken in a live environment with a number of rental units remaining trading throughout the construction period. Careful planning, phasing and consultation with retailers will ensure that the works progress smoothly and safely.

As a secondary school and library border the site regular contact is kept with the school Head to discuss works progress and future phasing. Should any works cause an issue, for example at exam times or during Ofsted inspections, works are rephased. Safety od students is an issue and a crew of workers constantly monitor boundary security in addition to the out of hours security.
