This is Clugstonʼs third project under the Governmentʼs PFI agenda. Working with UMEi and the integrated design team the new 10,000 m², three storey community hospital opened in the summer of 2006. The new facility will comprise 28 beds for local inpatient use, day-care theatre, therapies, a replacement for local GP facilities, mental health day clinics and various out reach services.
The Trust headquarters will be rehoused in a converted 1820ʼs listed poorhouse. Extensive reprovision of car parking will also be included.
Replacing old facilities with rebuild and refurbished buildings on a congested live hospital site is a major challenge which has been overcome through good design, planning and thorough liaison with the Trust. Understanding of their day to day operations has been a critical factor in the smooth transition from old to new.
The modern glass and terracotta tile design of the new hospital is a landmark facility.
