| Current Value: | £2.5m |
| Duration: | 52 Weeks |
| Consultants: | Mouchel Parkman |
The construction period for this eight class 210 pupil single form entry school, arranged around a central landscaped courtyard, is 42 weeks with 2 weeks for decanting from the existing school, which is adjacent the new school, and 10 weeks for the demolition of the existing school. The new school is being constructed within two metres of the existing school whilst the school remains operational.
As the existing school is operational, accessed through a narrow residential street and surrounded by residential properties measures to ensure the safety of the pupils and minimise disruption to residents have been put in place. These include the use of helical displacement piles that are quick and quiet to install, and environmentally friendly as there are no arisings to dispose of, no deliveries during school drop off and pick up times and restrictions on working hours.
The project involves the installation of 200 ten metre long piles, groundbeams, a steel frame with glulam beams and trusses, brick and blockwork infill walls under a tiled roof with traditional glazing. The glulam beams and trusses will be exposed internally and the main hall will feature a timber sprung floor with underfloor heating.
Facilities to be provided include eight classrooms, each with its own toilet and cloak room, hall, library, kitchen, main toilet and cloakroom area, staff room and offices and plant room. Externally hard, soft and grassed play areas will be formed and a walkway will lead from a veranda attached to the building out into a small lake in the school grounds. This feature will be used for educational purposes.
