Design and Construction of new Accommodation for the Air/Sea Rescue helicopter group 'E' Flight 202 Squadron at RAF Leconfield in Yorkshire. The project includes construction of a hangar for storage and maintenance of 3 no. 'Sea King' helicopters and an ancillary building to provide operational and welfare facilities for aircrew and ground crew, including sleeping accommodation. DDA regulations are also accounted for within the design of the facility. Extensive external works are included within the project, including refurbishment and realignment of the Final Approach and Take-off (FATO) strip, together with aircraft handstand area, 3no. helicopter stands, one of which will also be a washdown point. There is also be a fuel bowser park, an access road and car park together with fencing and associated external works.
The construction site lies in the centre of Albemarle barracks and within the operational Army Driving instruction facility. Consequently areas adjacent to the works were very heavily trafficked at all times and required significant assessment and management of the associated risks.
